eBay I attended the Altoona Area High School from 1976 – 1978 and participated in its Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Program. The celebration of Armed Forces Day in 1976 was especially special since it also celebrated the Bi-Centennial of our Country. I was selected to participate in a drill competition on Armed Forces Day, 14 May 1976 using the M1903 Springfield, officially the United States Rifle, Caliber .30-06, Model 1903. This weapon was an American five round magazine fed, bolt action, service repeating rifle. After several rounds of drill competition I won the Best Drilled Junior ROTC Cadet Trophy given by the Juniata, PA Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 8685 Award Trophy. After my acceptance of this V.F.W. trophy, it was displayed on my bedroom dresser in my parents smoke free home in Altoona, PA. After my high school graduation, my Mom carefully wrapped this trophy in white packing paper and placed it in a sealed plastic container with my other awards. The plastic container was then stored in my bedroom closet and remained there until the death of my Mom in 2006. I found the plastic container containing my old trophies while clearing out my parents’ house for sale and brought it back to our smoke free home in Manassas, VA. It continued to remain in the same plastic container and was stored in my walk in closet in our Master Bedroom. Since relocating to Fort Myers, FL, I no longer have the space to indefinitely store these childhood achievements. As a result, I am placing this trophy for sale on eBay. The front view of this Vintage Juniata V.F.W. Post 8685 Award Trophy is shown in the first attached high resolution photograph. The trophy consists of five parts; the solid white and silver marble base, hollow metal column, plastic platform, gold color metal platform spacer and gold color metal male military figurine. The height of the trophy from the bottom surface to the top of the military figurine is approximately 16 ½ inches high. The weight of the trophy is 2 pounds and six ounces. The marble base measures 5 inches long and ¾ inches high. It contains a brass plaque that measures 4inches long by ¾ inches high. The brass plaque contains the following engraved text: “BEST DRILLED CADET JUNIOR ROTC ARMED FORCES DAY 5-14-76” as shown in the second attached high resolution photograph. Note: The brass plate is mounted slightly uneven and has some minor scratches on its surface. In addition, there are some minor chips around the perimeter of the marble base. On top of the bottom marble base the numbers “19” and “76” are on the left and right sides respectively. These numbers are made of gold color plastic and have a decorative base. The height of the base and number is 2 ½ inches high. Their widest width is approximately 1 3/8 inches wide. The hollow metal column’s height is approximately 9 inches high and it width is 3 ¼ inches wide. The back of the column has a red, white and blue Bi-Centennial theme. The center section of the column is blue and measures approximately 9 inches high and 1 ¾ inches wide. The upper portion of this blue column contains an outline cut out of a flag. Within this cut out is a printed U.S. Flag on hard stock paper. Note: There is a slight crease in the hard stock paper as shown in the third attached high resolution photograph. The top plastic platform is approximately 4 inches long and ¾ inches high. It contains a brass plaque that measures 3 inches long by ¾ inches high. The brass plaque contains the following engraved text: “JUNIATA V.F.W.POST 8685 Award” as shown in the fourth attached high resolution. There is a gold color metal platform spacer on top of the plastic platform. The gold metal spacer platform measures approximately 1 inch high and 1 ½ inches wide at the bottom and ¾ of an inch at the top. The topper is a gold color metal male military figurine that includes a rifle along his right side. The height of the figurine is 6 inches high. The rear view of this trophy is shown in the fifth attached high resolution photograph. This exhibit provides the rear perspective of the five parts of the trophy previously discussed. The most noticeable attribute from this perspective is the red, white and blue Bi-Centennial theme displayed on the metal column. This special design incorporates the shape of the Pentagon. The bottom marble base contains the original manufacturing company’s sticker which includes the following information: “CHAMPION TROPHY MFG. CORP 1117-19 NINTH AVENUE,ALTOONA, PA and phone number” as shown in the sixth attached high resolution photograph. The right side view of this trophy is shown in the seventh attached high resolution photograph. Note: There are some minor chips around the perimeter of the marble base. The plastic number “19” also slightly tilts backward. The left side view of this trophy is shown in the eighth attached high resolution photograph. Note: There are some minor chips around the perimeter of the marble base. The plastic number “19” also slightly tilts backward. The top view of this trophy is shown in the ninth attached high resolution photograph. The bottom view of this trophy is shown in the tenth attached high resolution photograph. This exhibit shows the center metal screw and lug nut that holds the five component pieces of the trophy together. The other two metal screw and lug nuts hold the plastic numbers “19 & 76”. The following letters: “GD-ITALY” is stamped in black with a thin square black line forming a rectangle around the text. Each corner of the bottom of the marble has around felt pad furniture/ surface protector. This trophy contains all the vintage era components of those that were produced in the 1970’s. The Bi-Centennial Theme is what makes this trophy really special. Note: Photographs are an important part of my description; please review all photographs before purchasing.
