If you collect cookie jars and/or Watt pottery, this jar will make a unique and marvelous addition to your collection! I have been collecting Watt pottery for over 40 years and could not believe it when I recently stumbled upon this rare and whimsical cookie jar in a local antique mall! I have NEVER seen this cookie jar in person in my life. It is the double sided happy/sad jar made by Watt pottery for Esmond. It has the maker mark USA and number on the bottom. The cookie jar measures approx. 7.5″ without the lid and 8″ wide. This piece shows extremely well on both sides, but has some issues that need to be pointed out. The lid has tiny white specks on it in places (like tiny paint flecks) and has some flat wear to sides with uneven application of stain on underside. The white tiny specks are not really noticeable inside. Cookie jar: As you can see, it is highly stained with crazing showing inside the bottom and up the inside of the sides in places and underneath on the base. I don't see that staining outside of the jar except in a few small spots near the mouth on both sides and near the eye on one side. There are two larger stains with crazing on one side on the lower part of the jar. In the lower stained spot, you can see some crackling of the glaze near the cookie jar edge–also a manufacturing defect. There are some clear craze lines in spots only visible is very high light. The molding manufacturing lines on the sides of the jar can look dark depending on the lighting, but I have felt them and examined them with a magnifying glass and they are not cracks–just mold lines with a few manufacturing flaws. There are some manufacturing indents in the glaze that appear like lines in the glaze or a little notch near the face–all glazed over. Typical Watt pottery manufacturing flaws. One eyebrow looks to have some pottery on top of the brown–I don't think it is a flake, but it is the same color as the base pottery on that eyebrow. Please review all of the pictures and video. Some flaws I show more than once and I have taken most of the pictures outside in the VERY bright sun so they will be more obvious there. I have taken some inside to show the comparison in some places. I may have forgotten to mention a few tiny manufacturing issues so please review the pictures and the video as part of the “as is” description. I will be shipping this insured and very well packed so shipping is more because of insurance and a required signature. I will ship this the least expensive method offered to your home.
