French “talking plates” were a collecting fad in the 1800’s, usually showing French culture or history. This series of humorous plates depicts various flowers, with a couple demonstrating the flower in question. This is a reproduction of a 1800’s French Talking plate bearing Gien’s hallmark used 1960 – 1971. I am offering the set of 6 plates individually for your collecting needs. Buy one, buy them all! A) Fleur D’Orange (Orange Blossom) does not have association / meaning on plate – Shows a wedding scene. The groom says “If my wife is a rosebush, can I say I have her rosebush?”. Faience is a tin glazed earthenware made in France, Germany, Spain, and Scandinavia. In Italy, it is known as majolica. In the Netherlands and England, it is known as Delft. The tin glaze used in faience is actually a lead glaze that has been rendered white and opaque by the addition of tin oxide. In the production process, an unglazed article is fired in a kiln and is then dipped in the tin glaze, which is allowed to dry. Paint intact without erosion. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, cracks, hairlines, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo’s. Don’t feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges.
