This listing is for high-grade, crushed gold ore. Lot consists of quartz, ironcap, and gold. It might better be described as gold concentrates. Particles average 1 mm wide and smaller. It’s a mix of free gold, pinpricks of sand and ironcap, bits of quartz, most with visible gold attached. It looks great in a water-filled vial. They would burrow a hundred feet just to check out what was at the basement level i.e. the point at which it was impossible to dig further without blasting country rock. From what I’ve seen, most of that Yukon production comes from untapped ground. To be honest, I’ve not had many experiences working virgin paydirt. I’ve found it, read about it, and mined some here and there. Believe me, that’s what a prospector lives for. In my day, most claims I worked had no virgin, auriferous dirt left. Everything with gold in it came in the form of redeposits. In the desert, my best paystreaks were found dry-washing the deepest parts of drywashes. Even then, it was always flood gold. During intervening years, the interval between when washes, creeks, and rivers were last worked and the present day, intermittent, periodic floods erode drainages. Turbulent waters cut through old tailings, abandoned diggings, and wash over virgin clip zones. Picture how a violent gulley-washer tears through local washes, arroyos, and canyon systems. New gold is picked up and re-concentrated. It’s been born out by personal experience that lost gold from yesteryear replenishes a watershed. Be advised the amount of gold coming down may not be of much account. It just depends on how much gold was in the surrounding environs to begin with.
