Winner receives a pair of screen-prints on Coventry rag paper by well listed American artist Kate Shepherd (b.1961). The works are titled “Mustard Half, Grey Half, Lines Trade”. Although unsigned, we guarantee the authenticity of this work for life, as we have contacted the artist directly to verify this work, as well as the others we have listed. The images were drawn through a graphite sheet, which is the reason they look printed as well, but they are not. The prints have impeccable provenance from the estate of Gordon & Zanne Stewart, who purchased the works directly from the artist. The prints are in exquisite condition with no rips, tears, repairs, foxing, staining, toning, or water damage. The original gallery frame is in excellent condition with no cracks, damage, or repairs. The acrylic does have some scratches, some shown magnified in picture 4. In addition the white backboard has scattered pale staining. The work is ready for hanging as-is or the new owner may wish to replace the backboard and acrylic. The frame measures roughly 15.5″ x 18.75″, with the images themselves measuring roughly 10.25″ x 6.5″ together. Please note the pictures may not be as clear as we’d like due to the settings on the camera to reduce the glare. Thank you for checking out our listing. Kate Shepherd was born in New York City in 1961. She graduated from Oberlin College in 1982, intermittently studied color and composition at Atelier Lucio Loubet, in Paris and attending The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies. In 1992 she received her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts after attending Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has received several awards and residencies, including a Lannan residency in 1999, and multiple residencies at Chinati Foundation and MacDowell Colony. Shepherd works in a range of disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. In her work, she explores the elegance of form in myriad structures reducing them to their most elementary outlines. Her approach articulates relationships that create tension between figure and ground, line and color. She has had numerous one person and group shows. She also created a panel painting for Lannan Foundation Writers’ Residence in Marfa, TX. Ms. Shepherd participated in a long residency in Santa Fe. During her seven-week tenure, she completed a series of drawings and paintings inspired by boxes that transport long-stem roses. The works were installed in the foundation’s gallery and presented to the public. Ms. Shepherd also gave a lecture on the development of her work at SITE Santa Fe. The exhibition was also presented in Los Angeles, at Otis Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, in Winter 2000.
