Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE BERLIN KPM STYLE PORCELAIN PORTRAIT PLAQUE ASTI REFLEXION DORE BOX HAND PAINTEDA finely painted round antique porcelain plaque portraying a beautiful brown-haired woman and set into the lid of a same shape bronze dore box. Bronze dore is also known as gilt bronze or ormolu and is basically a bronze box plated with a metal alloy coating to try and imitate gold. This particular piece has been in my personal collection since the year 1999 and is a high-quality piece. The box with plaque shown in my photos is the actual item you will receive. Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” and “Approximate Dimensions” paragraphs below.The plaque is very well painted (it is 100% hand painted) by a very skilled artist, and bears the artist’s signature “Wagner” near the lower right-hand edge of this plaque. The subject is wearing a very low-cut red gown and is looking down to her left. This portrait was painted after an original painting done by Italian born Parisian artist Angelo Asti (1847-1903) and titled “Reflexion”. The portrait is very life-like and just stunning! The reverse side of the plaque shows the title of the portrait hand painted in red script that reads “Reflexion nach (after) Asti” and an impressed circular mark (not a strongly impressed mark and difficult to read) that appears to me to be the mark of the C. M. Hutschenreuther firm, formerly of Hohenberg, Germany. This same mark is shown as mark # 2125 on page 259 of the book Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present by Robert E. Rontgen and this book states that this mark was used between 1857 and 1899. There are also other impressed numbers on the plaque as well as some illegible pencil markings. The inside of the box has fabric covered paper inserts that covers the inside. These appear to have been glued in place at one time but are loose now but still in decent condition. I find no identifying markings of any type on the metal box. A strikingly beautiful plaque, beautifully displayed in the bronze box frame and in great original condition! I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. Everything appears to me to be original and intact, except for the fabric covered paper interior lining being loose as mentioned above. I see no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs to the porcelain plaque. I did not remove the plaque from the frame, and it appears to have no visible signs of wear or use. All I will mention is some tarnish and discoloration to the metal box as well as some age-related wear and signs of use that are consistent with the age of the box. I made no attempt to in any way to clean the box. I see no dents, dings, or splits to the metal. The box opens and closes as it should; the hinge is nice and tight and it latches shut crisply as it should. Please keep in mind the photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times bigger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.Approximate DimensionsThe visible part of the porcelain plaque itself in the box is about 3” (7.6 cm) in diameter. Overall, the box is about 3.5” (8.9 cm) in diameter by about 1.375” (3.5 cm) in overall thickness.Approximate WeightAbout 6.5 ounces (185 grams).
