BASEBALL BOXING HUNTING YACHTING BILLIARDS CHESS HORSE-RACING WILKES’ SPIRIT OF THE TIMES SPORTING THEATRICAL CHRONICLE 1865 ARCHIVES OF HISTORY DESCRIPTION This is a rare sporting and theatrical chronicle titled “Wilkes’ Spirit of the Times” – September 9 1865, “A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, the Army and the Stage” – “The American Gentleman’s Newspaper” published by George Wilkes. This was one of the largest sporting Journals in the United States during the mid 1800s. Each issue is filled with articles on baseball box-scores, horseracing, cricket, boxing, billiards chess, fishing, hunting, shooting, yachting, rowing, horseracing, the theatre and so much more, simply too much to mention. This rare newspaper/journal is original and complete as issued, 16 pages, 11 x 16 inches in size and in very good condition. It is still attached at the spine and was printed on a heavy rag/cotton paper thus not at all brittle to the touch! Easy to read and research without damaging the paper. This original authentic newspaper printed in the year of 1865 is guaranteed to be as described. I do not deal in copies/reproductions.
