25 Austree Willow tree/shrub cutting starts Do not plant if your area still has the potential for freezing temperatures! INDIANA GROWN…GROWS 10 FT A YEAR LOWEST PRICE GUARANTEE. Your order will have a mixed lot of cuttings from almost 1” caliper to 3/8”. A standard mix will be 1/3 large and 2/3 small. Majority of cuttings are 10 inches. Included will have detailed instructions on how to root in water (recommended for increased growth and 95% survival rate.) Tree can grow in partial shade but tree prefers full sun. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED You will receive 25 starts. For PRIVACY, it is recommended that you prune the tops for the first few years to force thicker growth. It is also important that you AT LEAST plant them every 5 feet. For effective WIND BLOCK in winter when they lose their leaves, it is recommended that you stagger two rows and plant them 10 feet apart with an 8 foot space between rows (obviously the closer you plant them… the thicker and more excellent the hedge) With this formula you can cut wind down 30-40%- that’s without leaves!!! These trees will not seed, sucker or spread like other willows. They are a hybrid. These trees are LIVE plants and for 5X the growth and best results, place them standing up (Do not flip them! The moistened paper towel end of the willows is the bottom and the side of the cutting that will need to be placed into the container of water) in a bucket of 3-4 inches of water. We call this the ‘Jump-Start’ technique and we will send you detailed instructions when you order. Still, if you don’t want to go to the trouble, due to the nature of this unique tree you can plant them directly in the soil when you receive them as they do not need any roots or leaves to start. If you do this, make sure to water them daily. These come as a bare start. With shipping you do not want your cuttings to have been soaked with beginning roots forming to avoid any rot during transport. A wet paper towel will be at the base of the start to give it the moisture it needs. If the cutting seems dry at the end you may slice off the very end of it to allow water to get into the plant faster. Once cuttings have roots that are 2-3″ long they can be planted. If your area is still having freezing temps DO NOT plant these trees into the ground! Just leave them rooting in water. While they are this young they will not make it through a hard frost. After this spring and summer of establishing they will be fine to withstand any cold temps during the fall and winter. They grow well in zones 4-10. If you want (and this is personally what I do) after the roots are long but before planting them into the ground I plant them in 1 gallon temporary pots. This allows you to move them should a late frost come. This tree is truly incredible with its speed of growth but it also is an amazing beauty with vibrant green foliage, gorgeous slender leaves, and overall spear-like shape. As with all live plants, the buyer should anticipate some natural die-off as they would planting anything – a certain amount do not make it. Please order accordingly. You cannot overwater these trees! While they are being established this spring and summer make sure to try and water daily.
