For your consideration is a NEW 4130 Chromoly (CR-MO) Steel Slant Stem. To elaborate, the stem plate and the stem tube are both made from 4130 Chromoly steel. 4130 Chromoly steel is very well recognized for it’s strength, durability, and rigidness. There is no substitute for the qualities 4130 Chromoly steel has. If you have purchased my 4 piece bar clamp sets in the past – those clamps will fit perfectly on this stem. If you want clamps to go along with this stem – they are available in 1 of my other auctions. As can be seen in the pictures, this stem being offered is raw. Raw in the sense that this stem has NOT had any plating of any kind applied to it. If you choose to get this plated on your own…..there are several options to choose from, such as preparation methods, plating material (nickle/chrome) and plating processes (electro/electroless for nickle and hard/thin/bright for chrome). Because of all the possible choices involved with plating – you will be choosing and paying for any and all plating service(s) – if that is what you choose to do. Accordingly, any plating service(s) you choose will be paid for and will be done by you – not the seller of this item. I am NOT offering plating services with the sale of this item in this auction. Hope this is all clear. FYI – Please note: The stock photo in this listing and its appearance is a good representation of the actual stem you will receive. Most, if not all, plating services that perform nickel/chrome plating should and most likely will cleanse and dip this part into a caustic and/or electrolytic solution to remove any and all contaminates (such as surface oxidation, the rainbow effect in the HAZ from welding, grease, oils, etc…) prior to plating. In addition, after cleaning most plating services might even offer other surface preparation services like sanding, polishing, buffing, etc… prior to plating as well. You will have to decide from several options plating services offer (if and when you choose to get this stem plated) and your decisions will determine the overall final look of the stem that you want to achieve. There are a number of factors in terms of quality to keep in mind when deciding if this quality stem is right for you. These factors are listed as follows:1) The 4130 Chromoly steel plate and 4130 chromoly steel tubing is sourced and manufactured here in the USA. 2) CNC machine precision control water jet cutting of the 3/16″ 4130 chromoly plate performed here in the USA. 3) CNC machine precision control for the clamp mounting holes and for the hole for the chromoly 4130 stem tube on the stem plate – also in the USA. 4) Machined turning/boring of the 4130 CR-MO stem tube to an O.D of approx. 13/16″ (.8125) – check your fork tube I.D. for fitment – also in the USA. 5) Welds from an experienced professional welder also here in the USA. You want to be happy with the appearance and this stem won’t disappoint you. This high quality stem you see as pictured in this auction is not the only item you get in this auction. You will also receive a quill bolt cap and wedge (see picture provided). These accessory items that are included with this stem are all CNC machined for a perfect fit with this stem and are also USA made from USA sourced 6061 aluminum. I decided not to supply a quill bolt for various reasons – such as differences in 1) color (i.e….zinc plate, stainless, black oxide, chromed, etc…), 2) grades, 3) hardness, 4) tensile strength, etc…. Anyone wanting to purchase this stem can add their own personal touch by choosing your own quill bolt. But, the cap and the threads of the wedge are made to accept any standard SAE 6″ threaded 5/16-18 TPI bolt. In summary, this stem only needs your final touches with plating and choosing your own quill bolt to make it really stand out for your current or next project/build. Selling this slant stem raw not only allows you to choose what type of plating (i.e….chrome/nickle) you want, but also gives you the option to customize the stem plate with engraving prior to plating. Customizing the plate with engraving prior to plating is a service that I can provide for an additional cost. If interested in seeing an example of how well custom engraving can look – send me an email indicating you might be interested in engraving and I will send a you a picture. Knurling might also be an option. Feel free to send an email message to inquire for details on how this can be done if you want engraving/knurling.
