Listing Title: LOT 3 Genuine HP Q2612A 12A Black Toner Cartridge Seald NewStyle Boxes ShelfWear Notes on Listing Title (where more details might clarify the title) Q2612A 12A There are 2 commonly used model / part numbers for this product. I’m showing both in the title. Seald means “Sealed”. The second “e” was left out on purpose due to title length limits (see also next paragraph). NewStyle Boxes Between approximately 2011 and 2013, HP changed the graphics style/color on its retail packaging of toner (and I believe also ink) products. The older style was mostly blue and white. The newer style (intentionally spelled “NewStyle” without the “er” or the space between “New” and “Style”) due to the limited length eBay allows for listing titles), as shown in the listing photos, and as you’ll typically find on currently available HP toner products if you check them out at a retail store, is mostly black and white. So if while comparison shopping on eBay you see any of this model / part number toner cartridge with that older style packaging — and you will — you are definitely looking at older toner cartridges than those I’m selling. And some eBay sellers of this model / part number toner in that older style packaging, who might just not know any better, are listed for sale at a higher price than I’m asking for the newer ones I’m selling! Those older ones might work without a leak. But as I have personally experienced, at some point the “inner seals” designed to keep toner powder from spilling out during transportation and toner cartridge use, will deteriorate to the point where you will risk finding a big mess inside your printer some day. That risk simply steadily goes up as a toner gets older. I can’t guarantee that the ones I’m selling (which are all dated later than 2013) won’t have a similar problem — but knowing the source from which I got them, I highly doubt it. The only thing for certain is that you’re much less likely to encounter a “toner leak” if you avoid buying the obviously older style HP Q2612A / 12 A toner cartridges that some ebay sellers are selling currently. ShelfWear means that while these toners in their boxes are new and sealed and show no signs of the boxes having been dropped, twisted, or have holes punched in them, there is a certain amount of “shelf wear” that took place during storage and/or during shipping to the original buyer. One of the 3 toner boxes also had some words in black marker written on its front panel and on one end panel, to show which user that particular toner was supposed to go to after being shipped to an agency location. And one of these toner’s boxes has a shipping label, visible in various parts in Photos 1, 5 and 11 (the other toner boxes have no shipping labels attached to them). I’ve included both general photos and also, where needed, close up photos (see “Photo Notes” section) to let a potential buyer be aware of those conditions in advance, as well as overall photos to clearly show the overall condition of the exterior of each toner’s box. Many sellers wouldn’t even bother to point out the level of “aesthetic issues” relating to these toners (I always do some “market research” before I set a price on what I sell, and on how I should describe it, so I’ve usually looked at at least 10 listings before I start to create one that isn’t simply a re-use of one of my own prior listings). Despite that, I’ve had some “toner reseller” buyers buy from me and then, only after the sale, demand that I point out any flaws — even though they were pointed out in the photos and words of the listing if they’d only bothered to look at the photos and read the listing. They want the nicest looking products so that they can ask the highest prices. Nothing wrong with that, but I’d rather not waste my time on buyers like that who will simply “buy first and ask questions later”, and demand that I cancel a sale and refund what they paid if the “standards” they include in their message aren’t met by what they just bought from me. And then, if I agree to cancel, I have to spend more time re-listing, and in the meantime my product isn’t visible on eBay to other buyers. For the rest of you, I’m sorry to have wasted your time. SAVE MONEY AND GET YOUR TONERS QUICKLY WITH FREE LOCAL PICKUP! The details are spelled out further down in this listing, but if you need this product right away, and you’re willing to travel to San Leandro, CA (between Oakland and Hayward), you can specify “Free Local Pickup” during “ebay Checkout” and get your product fast by coming to pick it up at no cost (no shipping, and no “pickup fee” some others charge). I’ll even refund you $5 for saving me the time to pack and ship. You will also personally see the condition of each box and not have to worry about time-in-transit delays, rough handling of your purchase by shippers, etc. Once you’ve paid we will work out a pickup schedule that works for both of us — and as a one-person operation, I’m pretty flexible on pickup dates and times. I respond quickly to questions about this and any other eBay listings of mine. CONDITION AND SOURCE OF TONER: We are regular customers of government surplus supplies departments. When an agency stops using a printer, copier, or multifunction machine, either because they’ve upgraded to a newer/different model by choice, or because an existing machine has stopped working properly and a decision was made not to repair it or replace with a compatible model, they send their surplus printing supplies to a centralized surplus department. If the surplus department can’t find another agency or other entity in their system to take that now surplus ink or toner, they then make it available to the public for sale. I buy the now surplus toners and then resell them, e.g. on eBay. I store inks and toners under proper temperature and humidity conditions pending resale, based on information shown on the outside of toner boxes when found there, and when not, based on our very long experience in selling a wide variety of name brand toners where the factors to be considered when deciding on a proper location to store toner products such as these frequently are printed on the outside of toner boxes. As to the condition of toner being sold here, the above statements about storage conditions apply. Beyond that, the only remaining issue is “How good does this product look?” For the answer to that question, please re-read if need be the “Notes on Listing Title” above, plus review the listing photos while having the below “Notes on Listing Photos” available to guide you to what specific things you might want to focus on in that review. As far as the age of these toners, I know how to read the “date code” that HP has put on most of its toners since at least 2010. The code says that these toners were made in 2015. It’s a “production date” code, not an “expiration date” or anything at all like that. And when it comes to HP toners, I’ve only ever had one customer in hundreds if not thousands of toner sales ask to return a toner for a refund (which I did allow), because it leaked toner inside their printer apparently due to the deterioration of some kind of “inner seal” designed to prevent such leaks. That was more than 15 years ago. I didn’t know yet that selling a toner dated to, as I recall, abut 2004, was a risky thing to do. I’m not sure I even sold it through eBay (was sold to a local customer). But I do know that one way to get a general idea of how old an HP print cartridge is, is to take note that HP made a major change in the graphics style, especially the color scheme, of its toners’ boxes, during the period roughly 2011-2013 (mostly by the end of 2012) when the current style of box graphics and background color, as shown in the listing photos here, became standard. In my experience, most of the boxes were redesigned during 2012, with a small number redesigned in 2011. The prior style included a great deal of blue and white background color, compared to the current style of mostly black and white background as on the toners’ boxes here. Please note that we always tell you all that we know about printing supplies that we sell, while many other sellers, especially those who only put up one or two listing photos in their listings, usually don’t let you know how old is the toner (or ink) that they sell. We think you deserve to know what you are buying, which is why we tell you about package dating, and show so many listing photos. PHOTO NOTES Photos 1-5 and 8-11 are all “group” shots. Unlike some other sellers we don’t “cherry pick” our photos by deliberately showing you the “nicest” photos first and/or saying that the photos in a listing aren’t necessarily of the exact same toner(s) you’d get. We think honesty is the best policy in the long run! One thing about close up photos if they focus on worn areas of the boxes: The camera is so close (or the photo was enlarged so much) as to make the worn or damaged area seem worse and/or covers a larger area than ithe worn or damaged area does cover. Please keep that in mind when viewing the photos. Be sure to also look at the wider area photos that show those worn and/or written on areas, to keep a proper perspective on how much of each box is “less than perfect” in appearance. All photos are only of the exact group of items being sold here; no stock photos were used. In general I rarely use stock photos, and then only when I’m selling something that is in totally “mint condition” as if it was just removed from a box full of the same exact thing, as received from the manufacturer. THERE IS OFTEN A PROBLEM IF THE BUYER MAKES AN EBAY “BEST OFFER” WE ACCEPT, BUT AFTER THE SALE CHANGES THEIR “SHIP-TO” ADDRESS FROM WHAT THEIR OFFER STATED Please note: This section only applies if a buyer makes an eBay-authorized “Best Offer”, by which they offer to buy a product from us at less than the “Buy It Now” price, and only under the circumstances discussed below. Anyone intending to pay the full “Buy It Now” price, or making a “Best Offer” in which they inform us in advance within the offer itself what actual address (at least city and zip code) they want their purchase sent to if diferent from the address that eBay will automatically display together with their offer, can skip the rest of this section as it won’t apply to them. Any time a buyer makes an offer to us through ebay asking us to agree to accept less than our posted “Buy It Now” price, eBay will show us what ebay specifically identifies to us as part of the display of the buyer’s offer, as the buyer’s “ship-to” address. We’ve learne, however, that eBay will let a buyer, without first asking our permission, change a ship-to address after an offer has been accepted, which (possibly because of our West Coast location) more often than not in our experience means that the shipping cost will go up, rather than down or just stay the same, as what the offer had led us to expect. That can be a real problem when we accept offers based on the ship-to address shown to us in the offer being not far away, and shipping was either “free” (meaning we agreed in the listing to pay for it, not the buyer, and set the “buy” price high enough that we hope we make a reasonable profit after paying for shipping plus eBay fees) or “fixed” (meaning a flat rate applies that might be far below what our actual shipping cost turns out to be if the buyer tries to change the “ship-to address” after we accepted the offer). This discussion is a “heads up” for buyers who might want to make offers here, in this “free shipping” (for the buyer, not the seller) listing, where a post-purchase address change can cut into how much we expected to profit on the sale based on what ship-to address was shown to us together with the offer. When that happens, we might cancel such a sale to avoid a post-deal, unexpected, never agreed to, involuntary price cut effectively being imposed on us without our agreement. LOW “ECONOMY CLASS” SHIPPING COST (MEANS YOU MIGHT GET A FREE UPGRADE TO FASTER SERVICE): eBay defines “Economy Class” shipping as meaning a shipping service that is supposed to get a buyer’s item to them within 10 business days after being given to the shipper by the ebay seller (plus, in our case, our standard 1 business day after payment handling time between payment date and shipment date). When you choose “Economy Shipping”, we will pick from available carriers that will commit to delivering your item(s) to you at least that quickly, based on whichever method costs us the least. In our experience, it’s fairly often that eBay’s next faster shipping class of “Standard Shipping” will have at least one service that will be less expensive than the least expensive method for “Economy” shipping. Don’t ask me why this is, but it is often true. So if (as sometimes happens, especially if you aren’t far from our San Francisco Bay Area location), that means choosing a generally faster shipping method that costs us no more than what we’d have to pay to provide Economy Class Shipping, we’ll upgrade your shipment at no cost to one of those usually faster methods that qualify for eBay’s purposes as “Standard Class” shipping, such as “USPS Ground Advantage” or “UPS Ground” or “FedEx Ground / FedEx Home Delivery” (eBay controls which of those two FedEx options we might choose) that satisfies ebay’s “Standard Class” class shipping standards, we’ll “upgrade” you a faster service than one listed by eBay as “Economy Class”, sometimes including even USPS Priority Mail, at no added cost. You’d still be paying our stated cost for “Economy Class” but should get a faster delivery as a result of the upgrade. EXPEDITED SHIPPING VIA USPS PRIORITY MAIL FOR $10 MORE THAN “ECONOMY SHIPPING”, FOR A TOTAL SHIPPING COST OF $25: You can decide at time of checkout to pay $25 (that’s $10 more than if you opened for Economy Shipping at $15) for us to ship via USPS Priority Mail if you’re in a hurry (and want to be sure that we’ll use Priority Mail instead of a likely slower — possibly days slower, depending on circumstances — alternative allowed by the terms of this listing). If you pay for this upgrade and it turns out we’d have done the upgrade for you anyway at no cost per the discussion in the preceding section, we’ll refund the upgrade fee. Please note that throughout this listing, whenever we refer to “USPS Priority Mail”, we are not referring to the much more expensive “USPS Priority Mail Express” service (formerly known as “Express Mail”). FREE LOCAL PICKUP (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY): PLEASE READ IF YOU WANT TO PICK THIS UP FROM US AT NO CHARGE TO YOU OTHER THAN YOUR PURCHASE PRICE (plus tax if added by eBay): If you want the Free Local Pickup option, it is much better to make that choice during “ebay checkout” before you finish and pay. Ebay used to be very strict about that, though apparently it is now possible, if done very soon after purchase, to arrange with the seller for a local pickup, confirmed in writing by messages between buyer and seller so that ebay will be able to review those messages and decide if to approve an after-the-fact decision by the buyer to want the “local pickup” option, rather than the otherwise automatic choice by eBay of shipping if no other choice was made before Checkout was complete, to apply. Since I almost always my listings set up to have a one business day turnaround time between date of payment and date of shipment (this will sometimes be temporarily seen as 2 or more days, usually because I will be out of town for a few days and won’t be able to ship as quickly as usual after a purchase has been made), any post-payment request to change your choice on this topic has to be done quickly so that I don’t get a “ding” on my timely shipments record for not shipping as fast as the listing says I would do, that I then have to spend what would could be an hour or more on the phone, trying to get ebay to remove. And one more thing: We’re a small outfit that does not have an always-available pickup or customer service department, so pickups must be by appointment only. Please don’t show up unannounced and assume you can be helped. We’re reasonable people at this end, however, as our feedback should show, so if we work together, setting up an appointment, possibly including evenings and weekends depending on our mutual schedules at the time of purchase, that works for all should not be difficult. Thanks! RETURNS IN GENERAL: Please be sure to save all shipping and packing materials (box, padding, etc.) for the length of the potential return period, in the event a return is to take place. If you have any questions at all about the condition of the materials, however, please contact us first to confirm that we would authorize you to re-use those materials in returning an item to us, since sometimes those materials get chewed up enough during initial delivery that they need to be repaired or replaced before being re-used. BUYER NO-FAULT RETURNS: 30 calendar day return time, running from date of first attempt at delivery by the chosen shipper to your ebay verified shipping address, if your return is for any or no reason, in the same condition as sent (still sealed in its original sealed HP retail box), at your expense. However, if in addition to opening the packaging you also do something that causes one of these to fail in use or otherwise become unable to be resold, e.g., if you spill your drink into one of these, or you install it and later spill your drink into the printer and the toner “fries” along with the printer, rather than some kind of failure not linked to improper use on your part, those are good examples of situations that don’t qualify as a “BUYER NO-FAULT RETURN”. CLAIMED SELLER FAULT RETURNS: Ebay lets you return almost anything within 30 days after receiving it, if what was purchased is not what the listing represented it to be, no matter what limitations a seller may try to put on the reasons for return (and many do). Please see exact details as provided by eBay at the top of this listing. To the extent that ebay allows it, you must use a shipping class and type that costs no more than what we used to ship your item(s) to you.
